Planning and supervision of a studio reconstruction
With loads of passion and commitment, the operators of the High Tide recording studio have completely rebuilt and modernized their old studio and have created a modern studio complex. The studio consists of two control rooms and two tracking rooms, a separate machine room and a lobby. Our mission was to plan a rebuild and to look after the construction process. Also, our goal was to acoustically optimize and equip the studio rooms and to plan an acoustic separation between both tracking rooms.

For Control Room A the main attention was directed to analogue workflow. The centerpiece of the room is a Amek Henrix with 56 channels. In addition, plenty of analogue outboard equipment is used. We have planned and built custom tuned resonators to the room modes. Further, we delivered the materials for building and we supervised the construction process. We planned a broadband absorbing front wall with flush mounted main speakers which was then build by the studio owners as well as custom made diffusers and broadband absorbers for walls and ceilings.
Tracking Room 1 is large enough for complete band recording sessions. Our task here was to create an acoustically flexible room with controlled reverberation time. Therefore we have planned broadband bass traps, broadband absorbers and diffusers and have supplied the building materials. The smaller Tracking Room 2 was meant to be acoustically separated from the bigger room. We have aimed to achieve the highest possible sound insulation between the two rooms, so that drums and vocals can be recorded at the same time. Tracking Room 2 was also planned and equipped with broadband bass traps and broadband absorbers wit HR-frontpanels (High Reflection).
Control Room B is dominated by a Sony Oxford R3 console and was optimized for a 5.1 multi-channel production environment. Like in Control Room A, we have delivered custom tuned resonators, planned a broadband bass trap on the front as well as other acoustic modules.
Overall, we delivered two large trucks of acoustic building materials to the construction site. The result is stunning. Both, room acoustics and building acoustics are very well done. At this point we would therefore like to express praise about the perfect craftsmanship of our concept and thank you for the great cooperation!
